Milford Cabins Dedication

The Kansas Wildscape Foundation and the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks hosted a cabin dedication ceremony for two (2) new Wildscape-funded rental cabins at Milford State Park, near Junction City, KS. The event occured on Friday, June 12th at 7:30 p.m. Present at the event were Mike Hayden (Secretary of Wildlife & Parks), Tony Reitz (Milford State Park Manager), Charlie Black (Wildscape Executive Director), Rep. Barbara Craft (District 65) and other area community and business leaders.

Milford cabin sponsors Jim Braden (Clay Center) and Al & Maxine Junghans (Junction City) were honored at the event for their contribution to the project. With the addition of these cabins, Wildscape has provided funding for 32 rental cabins throughout the state of Kansas, with plans for an additional 128 cabins to be in place over the next five years. Revenue generated from cabin rentals will go directly towards KDWP to be used as an additional source of funding for other outdoor opportunities in need of funding throughout the state.

Wildscape-funded cabins are built by inmates at the Kansas Correctional Facilities (Hutchinson, Ellsworth, Norton) and the program is used to train the inmates in various work-related skills to help them successfully transition back into public life. The program is extremely well received across the state, and the inmates are proud to work on these cabins and participate in providing more outdoor opportunities to all Kansans.
